5 Day Tarkine Wilderness Highlights Walking Tour

Walking in Tasmania doesn’t get any better than in the magical Tarkine Wilderness region.

The Tarkine is a vast expanse of wilderness – rich in both natural and cultural heritage. It contains Australia’s largest tract of cool temperate rainforest, and boasts one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline anywhere in the world. It is also home to over 60 rare or endangered species – including the Giant Freshwater Lobster and the iconic Tasmanian Devil.

This five-day tour provides a wonderful exploration of the region, taking in a variety of inspiring landscapes. Enjoy sweeping mountain views, the ambience of ancient Gondwanan rainforests, and visit a number of picturesque waterfalls – all while carrying your day pack only. Cruise to the mouth of the mighty Pieman River, and the take a stroll along the wild Tarkine Coast.

Tour inclusions:

  • Small group (10 or less), day-pack only walking tour with magnificent walks and sightseeing.
  • Daily guided walks curated to immerse you in the region’s unique landscape, flora and fauna, highlights including Mt Donaldson, Savage River, Tarkine north coast, Philosophers Falls and Montezuma Falls.
  • Two talented, experienced, accredited and safety gear equipped guides to drive, care and cook for you throughout the tour.
  • Return transport ex-Launceston, and all tour transfers in our comfortable 12-seater mini-coach with luggage trailer.
  • 4 nights comfortable twin-share accommodation (3 at Corinna Wilderness Experience and 1 at Tullah Lakeside Lodge) (limited single supplements at additional cost), with ensuites if available and sustainably provided.

    Distance: 5km, 2hrs walking approx. – Grade: 2 – easy
    DAY 2 – Savage River and Whyte River walks
    Distance: 9km, 4-5hrs walking approx. – Grade: 3, moderate
    DAY 3 – Pieman River Cruise and Tarkine Coast
    Distance: 8 – 10km, 4hrs walking approx. – Grade: 2, easy
    DAY 4 – Mt Donaldson
    Distance: 7km, 4hrs walking approx. – Grade: 3 – 4, moderate to hard
    DAY 5 – Montezuma Falls
    Distance: 11kms, 3hrs walking approx. – Grade: 2, easy

    Each day we also provide fruit, snacks, tea and coffee and a nibbles platter.

    Each evening after our days walking, we return back to our accommodation for some time to refresh and enjoy the peaceful scenery of Corinna and Tullah. Your guides will curate a beautiful nibbles platter for you, providing the perfect setting for a relaxing evening. During this time, they will also conduct a briefing, offering insights into the days experiences and outlining your upcoming adventures. Using a map of the area, your guides will illustrate the various regions and walks we are set to explore in the days ahead.

    Corinna Wilderness Experience (3 nights)

    Accommodation style: Corinna is your home in the wilderness – an oasis in the heart of the Tarkine. Our rustic, miner-style cottages provide a level of homely comfort with modern, clean facilities and amenities. All accommodation options are fully self-contained and boast unrivalled views of the Tarkine wilderness. From your doorstep, it’s just a short walk to immerse yourself in the timeless beauty of an ancient and scenic rainforest.

    Rooming: Each cottage has one or two bedrooms with a mix of single, twin and queen beds. If you book a Single Supplement, you will have a room to yourself.

    Bathrooms: Each cabin has one bathroom. You will be sharing the bathroom with other guests in your cabin.

    Single Supplement: If you book single supplement this means you will have one bedroom in the two-bedroom cabin and could be sharing the cabin with one or two other guests. We try to put single supplements in 1 bedroom cottages when available but cannot guarantee this.

    Other: All towels and linen are provided. Each cottage has its own lounge and kitchen area. Corinna runs on solar power so just be mindful of this, there is electricity for charging devices, but no television, mobile coverage or WI FI at Corinna. For heating purposes there is a small gas fired log fire in each cabin.

    Rooming upgrades for a private cabin is subject to availability with the accommodation provider for an additional surcharge. Please contact our team to discuss your options.

    Tullah Lakeside Lodge (1 night):

    Accommodation style: Located on the banks of Lake Rosebury, Tullah Lakeside Lodge features private lakeside access, a restaurant and bar.

    Rooming: The rooms provided are spacious premium rooms, either twin or double bedding configurations

    Bathrooms: Each room has its own bathroom facilities with toilet and shower.

    Single Supplement: If you book single supplement this means you will have your own room and bathroom.

    Other: All linen/towels and tea/coffee facilities are included.

  • Guest Notes

    If you are flying out that night you’ll need to book a flight out after 7pm from Launceston.
