Join a full circumnavigation voyage of Tasmania, showcasing the best of the remote parks, islands and harbours along the coast of this pristine island.  This 16 night voyage will include a visit to the Josef Chromy Vineyard, hiking through the Strzelecki National Park on Flinders Island, a gourmet lunch and dairy tour on King Island, and more than two days exploring the rarely-visited World Heritage wilderness of Port Davey.

Embark: Board at Hobart’s Princes Wharf  at 4:00pm for 5:00pm departure.
Disembark: Arrive and disembark at Hobart’s Princes Wharf  at 08:00am.

Please arrive the day before departure and depart the day after the final day in case of changes to the schedule based on weather conditions.

  • 1 DAY 1: DEPART HOBART (D)

    Board in Hobart at 4:00pm for an 8:00pm departure. Enjoy the Captain’s welcome drinks as we cruise down the Derwent River and into the D’Entrecasteaux Channel.

  • 2 FORTESCUE BAY & TASMAN PENINSULA (B, L, D)

    Gaze up at the 300 metre sea cliffs of Tasman National Park, the highest in the Southern Hemisphere, from a perfect position at sea. An area of huge natural diversity, it is possible to find Australian Fur Seals “hauling out” on the rocky shore at Tasman Island. Visit Fortescue Bay, hike the coastal Tasman Trail and kayak in Canoe Bay.

  • 3 MARIA ISLAND (B, L, D)

    The historic ruins and rugged cliffs of Maria Island National Park are home to diverse wildlife that includes Forester Kangaroos, Bennetts Wallabies, and wombats. Walk to historic Darlington Settlement, explore the ancient seabeds of the Fossil Cliffs, and marvel at the sandstone formations of the Painted Cliffs.

  • 4 FREYCINET PENINSULA (B, L, D)

    At Freycinet Peninsula, see the pink granite formations of the Hazard Mountains, and the sweeping bays fringed by Eucalypts. Join a guided hike to the Wineglass Bay beach – one of the best beaches in the world. Witness fur seals lounging on the rocks at the Ile des Phoques.

  • 5 FLINDERS ISLAND & THE FURNEAUX GROUP(B, L, D)

    Visit wild and rugged Flinders Island, and marvel at the pink and gray granite mountain ranges of Strzelecki National Park. Explore beautiful Trousers Point beach, with the possibility of enjoying two of Tasmania’s Great Short Walks at Trousers Point and Castle Rock. Visit seaside townships, discover the sad history of Wybalenna Settlement, and see relics of Flinders maritime past at the Furneaux Museum.

  • 6 KENT ISLAND GROUP (B, L, D)

    Weather permitting we visit the Kent Group of islands, Tasmania’s northernmost National Park and a marine protected area. These islands are the remains of a land bridge that once connected Tasmania with main land Australia over 10,000 years ago. The waters of Kent Island are crystal clear, with the highest diversity of fish species in Australia. On Deal Island we find the highest lighthouse in Australia, standing 305 metres above sea level, which is manned by volunteer caretakers.

  • 7 TAMAR RIVER & LAUNCESTON (B, L, D)

    Spend two days cruising the scenic Tamar River – which despite its name is actually a tidal estuary over its entire length. Formed by the confluence of the North and South Esk rivers at Launceston, the river’s banks are peppered with scenic reserves, historical properties and notable vineyards. We berth overnight in Launceston, with an excursion to Josef Chromy Vineyard and time to explore the surrounds.

  • 8 STANLEY (B, L, D)

    Visit the charming seaside village of Stanley, steeped in history and famous for its delectable seafood. Make the climb or chairlift up the Stanley’s iconic landmark ‘The Nut’, the remains of an ancient volcanic plug, for spectacular 360 degree views. Later amble past the well-preserved colonial buildings and perhaps sample some of Stanley’s world famous fish and chips.

  • 9 KING ISLAND (B, L, D)

    King Island is known for its fine local produce, featured in the finest restaurants all over Australia. Situated at the western entrance to the Bass Strait, its rugged coastline has been the site of over 60 known shipwrecks. Tour the island with knowledgeable local guides and learn about the island’s colourful history and current day industry. Sample a brie at the King Island Dairy tasting room, with a chance to sample King Island beef and locally caught crayfish, hosted in the rustic home of local beef farmers.

  • 10 WEST COAST EXPEDITION STOP (B, L, D)

    Home to striking mountain ranges, ancient pines and untamed rivers, the wild west coast is the heart of Tasmania’s wilderness and a true frontier. Take in the dramatic scenery during a day of cruising. Weather permitting, we may make a landing on this truly remote coastline.

  • 11 PORT DAVEY (B, L, D)

    A marine reserve and part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, Port Davey is truly spectacular. Enjoy the unforgettable experience of kayaking in Bramble Cove, and explore Melaleuca, along with hiking and bird-watching.

    We will spend 2.5 days here, and upon departure we will also cruise pass the remote south coast islands of Maatsuyker, home to Australia’s most southerly lighthouse.

  • 12 ADVENTURE BAY, BRUNY ISLAND (B, L , D)

    Experience the rugged beauty of Fluted Cape as you walk along the sheer coastal cliffs. Learn about the rich maritime history of Adventure Bay, and explore the history of old whaling stations on the way to Grassy Point.

  • 13 DAY 17: ARRIVE HOBART (B)

    Disembark in Hobart at 8:00am. A post-cruise transfer from the ship to Hobart city or airport is included.

Note the summer temperature can still be very cool especially with the wind chill so warm layered clothing is essential.

Accommodation Pick Up and Drop Off

Complimentary pick-up and drop-off at any Hobart or Launceston CBD Hotel, depending on which location tour starts and finishes. The pickup are usually between 8.30-9.15 am. The time of pickup will be confirmed closer to departure depending on where other guests are staying. Airport drop-off can be arranged in advance but will incur an airport drop-off fee of $60.

Most guests choose to stay in Hobart at The Alabama Hotel, St Ives Apartments, RACV/RACT Hobart Apartment Hotel, ibis Styles Hobart, Salamanca Suites or The Henry Jones Art Hotel.

How many Guests will be on Tour

The largest group we take in a vehicle is 15 passengers. The vehicle you will travel in depends on passenger bookings. There are 3 different size vehicles. ‘Maximum Passengers’ policy is:

  • Hyundai iMax – Licensed to carry 8, no more than 5 passengers in this vehicle.
  • Toyota HiAce – Licensed to carry 14, no more than 11 passengers in this vehicle.
  • Yutong Coach – Half size coach bus. Licensed to carry 23, no more than 15 passengers in this vehicle.

 

Packing Suggestions

Generally, the weather over the tourist season is warm during the day and cool at night. It is recommended to pack a warm jacket for Tasmania regardless of the time of the year you are travelling.

  • Digital camera or camcorder
  • Walking shoes. Although most walking tracks are easy and established, good walking shoes will come in handy.
  • A pair of jeans or similar, a pair of shorts in summer.
  • Sunglasses, sun cream and a hat.
  • A small torch if you want to search wildlife at night at Cradle Mountain.
  • A raincoat or jacket

 

WiFi Access

Most of the accommodation offer free Wifi. It may be slower than you are used to due to the remote locations. Wifi may only available when close to the reception building.

 

Mobile or Cell Phone Coverage  

The only cell phone network that has reliable signal in most locations is TELSTRA network. Vodafone & Optus sim cards will usually have signal only in major cities or towns. Public phones are widely available, some have the option of payment on credit cards.

  • Are there concession discounts?
    Pensioners (Australia or New Zealand) and Seniors Card holders (Australia) save with our concession discounts on selected tours. Ask our friendly team which tours you can get a discount on.
  • Are your tours suitable for pensioners aged 76 and 84 ?
    Yes, Tasmania tours passengers range from children to adult who are 90 years of age.
  • Transfer By Public Bus In Tasmania
    There are two Public Bus companies that operate between Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and other places inside Tasmania. You can see these here: Redline Coach and Tassie Link. Redline Coach also does airport to hotel transfers.
  • Do you have any tours on offer during June, July or August ?
    Due to our off season of winter, no Tasmania tours operate during the months of June, July or August. The season starts in September and ends in May each year.
  • Is accommodation the night after the tour ends included in the price ?
    No, this accommodation will cost extra.
  • Is accommodation the night previous to the tour departure included in the price ?
    No, this Tasmania accommodation will be an extra cost.
  • Where is the meeting point for the start of tours ?
    The pick up is at the “before tour accommodation” hotel listed in the TRIP NOTES tabs of the specific tour you are looking at.
  • Do I need to arrive before Day 1 of my tour ?
    Please refer to your specific tour and look in the “Trip Notes” information where it may state this: You need to arrive any time the day prior to Day 1. If this is the case we can organise airport pick up and pre tour accommodation on your behalf, this will be an extra cost.

    Other tours start late in the day on Day 1 so you can arrive that morning which will avoid the extra nights accommodation cost.

  • How do you calculate the number of days for your Tasmania tour ?
    If you are doing a 4 day tour commencing on April 8th, the first day of the tour is and includes the 8th, plus 9th, plus 10th plus 11th and the tour ends on April 11.
  • Do your tours operate over Christmas and New Year?
    Yes – this is one of our most popular and busiest times
  • Are airfares from my home town included in the cost of the tours ?
    Airfares to and from Tasmania at the start and finish of your tours are extra.
  • Do you have short tours that include Bruny Island ?
    No tours include a trip to Bruny Island, however many people add this on as a day trip from Hobart either before or are after their multi day tour.
  • Does the price include The Spirit Of Tasmania ship fares ?
    The 11 Day Tour to Tasmania includes the Ship costs one way.
